Professional Liability Insurance - REMINDER
Effective January 1, 2008, the
professional liability insurance bylaw increases the minimum level
of insurance coverage for public practitioners from $250,000 to
$1,000,000.
The bylaw does not provide any
exemptions from this mandatory coverage for part-time practitioners.
If your policy is up for renewal
AFTER January 1, 2008, we strongly urge you to increase your limit
with your insurance provider in order to be in compliance with
this bylaw.
If you have any questions, please
contact Jack Blackier, LL.B., FCA, at 634-1589 or via email at
jackblackier@nb.aibn.com.

To All Members
of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants:
The New Brunswick Securities Commission
intends to publish National Instrument 31-103 (NI 31-103) for
comment. NI 31-103 presents some significant changes to securities
law in New Brunswick that may potentially affect individuals and
firms who previously had not been regulated.
One of the main changes contemplated by
NI 31-103 is the regulation of the exempt market dealer. Currently,
an unregistered person is at liberty to trade securities that
are exempt from the prospectus requirement. NI 31-103 would require
those who trade in the exempt market to be registered with the
New Brunswick Securities Commission. In order to be registered,
the person trading in exempt market securities would have to meet
certain requirements relating to proficiency, capital, and bonding.
A copy of NI 31-103 will be made available
on the New Brunswick Securities Commission website (www.nbsc-cvmnb.ca)
at the commencement of the comment period which begins at the
end of February. We welcome and invite comments from all Members.
